LRPC 100-mile and 150-mile races coming up

UPDATE: Weather has delayed the races another week. The dates below have been changed to reflect the current schedule.

For those who are interested, we will be flying a 100-mile OB race (Oneida) June 25. John will drive the race.

On the following weekend, July 2, we will fly a 150-mile race from a new race station: Crossville, Tn. David and Bob will drive this race.

We will meet to crate birds at John James’ house on Friday nights at 7pm. Each race will cost $20 per flyer. Juniors free.

If you think you may race or come to John’s, please let me know so we know to expect you.

No LRPC racing this weekend (May 7)

Due to a lack of participants and risky weather, the LRPC will not be racing this weekend. Please refer to our schedule for the upcoming weeks. The LRPC is not due to race again as a club until June 18. Anyone wanting to race before then will be doing so with the Frankfort (Bluegrass) club. If anyone is interested in visiting the Bluegrass club, please contact me.

Don’t forget to deliver you futurity birds if you have any! Deadline is only three weeks away. Also, I will be meeting Dustin Baker on Sunday, May 15, and we will exchange futurity birds. If you have any birds you would like to enter in the MVS Futurity or the Buckeye Challenge One Loft, please contact David soon.

On Monday, seven more birds arrived home from the Sunday Chattanooga 200-mile race: Baker 123, Baker 125, LFO 165, LKY 009, LKY 432, LKY 507, LKY 321. Also on Monday, bird LFO 175 returned home from the 150-mile Knoxville race from two weeks ago.

The 31 birds were released at 8 a.m. in Chattanooga under clear skies and calm-light winds from the SW. The first drop of 7 birds came at about 1:40 (although the seventh bird wouldn’t trap until the 8th bird came along some many minutes later!).

A total of 16 birds were clocked on the day, with a total 23 out of the 31 arriving home safely in two days.

______________________

31 birds were countermarked and crated up Saturday night for the final 200-mile race from Chattanooga. Weather reports are calling for clear skies all the way with light winds from the NNW and SSW along the route. Another bird came in late this week and was determined healthy enough to race: LKY 629.

There are three birds in the loft now which were determined unhealthy enough to race: LKY 604, LKY 303, and LKY 528 (so that makes a total of 34 birds in the loft). Of the 31 birds racing Sunday, five are ineligible to compete in the avg speed contest but are able to win a trophy from this race. Of the 26 eligible birds racing on Sunday, only 13 of them have recorded clocking times for BOTH the first two races (all of the others didn’t return on the day in one or both of the races). The complete list of birds has been updated.

______________________

So far the weather looks very promising for this weekend. As of now, we plan to have the final 200-mile race on Sunday, Oct. 17.

The birds have been loft flying well and have trained out 45 miles twice in the last week. Four more birds have arrived home from the 150-mile race as well, bringing our totals of 32 birds in the loft (five are ineligible for the avg. speed series).

The four newly arrived birds are Baker 17, Baker 125, LKY 303 and LKY 604. The complete list of birds has been updated.
