UPDATE: I would like to clarify a couple of things about this auction. Like last year, 100% of the proceeds go to the LRPC as a fundraiser. Breeders/owners do not get a portion of the proceeds. Breeders/owners must buy their own birds back if they want their birds. I apologize if that was not made clear prior to now. ~ David

The LRPC 2011 Futurity bird auction has begun. We are auctioning the six birds that clocked in all four races. The auctions will end Sunday night, Oct. 30 at 9 p.m.

This is your chance to buy some proven race birds that have shown they have what it takes to home consistently and from distances as far as 280 miles as young birds.

Please use the widget on the right side of this page to view the details on the birds and to place bids.

Please note that Proxy bidding may be in effect. You may place a maximum bid and the auction system will bid for you up to but not beyond that price. If you make a bid and are immediately outbid, then someone else has placed a proxy bid and the auction system is placing the bid for them.

Shipping via USPS is $50 for one bird, plus $10 extra per bird up to four birds. Local buyers can contact David Stephenson for payment and pickup options.

If you have a bird remaining in the loft, but it is not one of the auction birds, please contact me if you want it returned.

Good luck bidding everyone!

He's a great-looking bird and will find a girlfriend waiting for him in Bob's loft before making a visit to David's loft later in the year.

We had a nice meeting at John James’ house Friday. Many thanks to John and his wife Whitney who prepared a table-full of goodies which we all enjoyed. It was nice to see Tony there as well and his birds and loft appear to be progressing well! Bob, once again, was able to enlighten us on some pigeon lore (who knew a pigeon’s altimeter couldn’t work over open water?) and some medication advice.

We had one guest, George Bryant from Lexington, and we did our best not to scare him away! Unfortunately, bad weather may have kept some of our other guests from making it and cut the meeting a bit short. As we departed John’s, we headed straight into the approaching squall line and threat of tornadoes – very unnerving!

I had three guests at my loft Friday before the meeting: Nathan Briggs and his brother Peter and a college friend of Nathan’s. They are trying to finish up their loft in the coming weeks and they will be ready for birds soon. They seemed to enjoy watching my birds fly around the neighborhood and they got to see the different stages of babies in the nest. I wish them well in their efforts. So far, they have built their small 4 x 4 loft entirely with recycled and scavenged material. They may be looking for some metal roofing material, 2×2′s and 1×4′s if anyone has any to give them. We will also looking for some members to donate some squeakers to them sometime in May.

If you still want to come visit John’s lofts and meet some club members, we have another shot at it this coming Friday evening, April 29. The long range forecast looks favorable! We will attempt a 100-mile race from Oneida on Saturday and I will drive the birds.

Weather has been a big issue for those of us trying to train birds and the first two races of the season have now been pushed back for us and the Frankfort club. I hope to hear soon about the Louisville’s club plans regarding their schedule and how it may affect ours. When I hear anything I will post an update. I am quite sure that the current OB schedule will be changing.

Futurity update: We are still getting birds in for the futurity and in fact, three good looking birds arrived yesterday from Thunderbird Lofts (Joel Sampang) from Texas. I’m hearing from many others that their birds will be ready soon so I expect another influx of birds in the coming weeks.
