This race was postponed due to bad weather and was raced instead on 5/8/10 alongside the 250-mile race.
150-mile OB Nashville Race 4/25/10

Bad weather postponed the race one day. Saturday, six members of the Frankfort club shipped 55 birds to the Nashville station. The birds were released at 7:40 a.m. Sunday under clear skies but brisk SW winds at 15-20mph. It was a fast race as the winning birds came in at just under 2,000 ypm. Ken Driskell took 1,2,4 and one of Joe Penn’s birds snuck in with a 3rd. Ken’s birds pretty much rounded out the top 15 or so. Complete list of winners will be posted soon.
Bluegrass Racing Pigeon Club OB Race Schedule

Here is the Old Bird race schedule for the Bluegrass Racing Pigeon Club (also know as the Frankfort Club). Some members of the Lexington Racing Pigeon Club have decided to race with them this year. For those who will be racing with Frankfort, shipping is at 6:00 p.m. on Friday’s for a Saturday race and is at Simeon’s house. We will meet back at 6:00 p.m. on Sundays to open clocks, etc.

Homers and GPS story on NPR

NPR did a nice little story about a scientific study using GPS devices carried by homing pigeons in little backpacks. The devices recorded the pigeon’s movement five times every second. The full results of the study can be found at the Journal Nature.
