Winners of the LRPC 2010 One-Loft Announced

Congratulations to the winners of the first One-Loft Futurity hosted by the Lexington Racing Pigeon Club.

It was an extremely close call for the top two spots. Had either bird trapped a little bit faster or slower it could have made the difference. Both birds gave top-notch performances and deserve the highest of honors.

We want to thank everyone who sent birds and supported our club for the past half-year. Also a big thank you to the club members who donated so much time, fuel and other assistance to make this adventure possible. We had a great time visiting with one another on race day and hope to continue the series in some fashion in future years.

We will announce details on our bird auction later this week. Money and trophy winners will be contacted so we can ship you your booty.

On Monday, seven more birds arrived home from the Sunday Chattanooga 200-mile race: Baker 123, Baker 125, LFO 165, LKY 009, LKY 432, LKY 507, LKY 321. Also on Monday, bird LFO 175 returned home from the 150-mile Knoxville race from two weeks ago.

The 31 birds were released at 8 a.m. in Chattanooga under clear skies and calm-light winds from the SW. The first drop of 7 birds came at about 1:40 (although the seventh bird wouldn’t trap until the 8th bird came along some many minutes later!).

A total of 16 birds were clocked on the day, with a total 23 out of the 31 arriving home safely in two days.

______________________

31 birds were countermarked and crated up Saturday night for the final 200-mile race from Chattanooga. Weather reports are calling for clear skies all the way with light winds from the NNW and SSW along the route. Another bird came in late this week and was determined healthy enough to race: LKY 629.

There are three birds in the loft now which were determined unhealthy enough to race: LKY 604, LKY 303, and LKY 528 (so that makes a total of 34 birds in the loft). Of the 31 birds racing Sunday, five are ineligible to compete in the avg speed contest but are able to win a trophy from this race. Of the 26 eligible birds racing on Sunday, only 13 of them have recorded clocking times for BOTH the first two races (all of the others didn’t return on the day in one or both of the races). The complete list of birds has been updated.

______________________

So far the weather looks very promising for this weekend. As of now, we plan to have the final 200-mile race on Sunday, Oct. 17.

The birds have been loft flying well and have trained out 45 miles twice in the last week. Four more birds have arrived home from the 150-mile race as well, bringing our totals of 32 birds in the loft (five are ineligible for the avg. speed series).

The four newly arrived birds are Baker 17, Baker 125, LKY 303 and LKY 604. The complete list of birds has been updated.

LRPC One-Loft 150-mile race 10/3/10

The birds were released in Knoxville on Sunday morning at 7:30 a.m. with 9 mph north winds and light overcast/partly cloudy skies. It was heavier overcast and similar winds here in central Kentucky. The weather right at the loft in Winchester was windy and overcast and the birds were slow and late coming in.

Only 16 birds made it home on Sunday, and John reports that 8 more came in on Monday. I’ve asked him to get me some band numbers of the birds that are coming in late so we can all know who has made it home. A down-loadable version of the results for printing can be had by clicking here.

LRPC One-Loft 100-mile Oneida results 9/19/10

Updated with final results

Thanks to Lee Fessenden for pointing out an error which has now been corrected as of Tuesday. Due to a typo, we had one bird mistakenly entered into the system twice. Some birds may now have moved up the list one place.

The birds were released under clear skies and calm winds from Oneida, Tn at 7:30 a.m. Sunday. By the time they had arrived in Winchester, the winds had picked up a little out of the SE 3-5mph. The race was fairly slow and the birds came in bits and pieces.

The first two birds came in alone and were clocked at approximately 10:43. Steve Slates’ bird stuck his head through the trap first but hesitated and the Baker & Sons Loft bird came on in ahead of him! Congratulations to Baker and Sons Loft, Steve Slates, John Hays and George Young whose birds took the first four positions.

The results below reflect the clockings of all 75 birds that arrived before sunset on Sunday. A download-able text document for easy printing can be had by clicking here. A mistake on my part has been corrected on the sheet, now showing that Steve Slates entered four birds instead of three.

Four birds came in on Monday. They are LKY 135, LKY 146, LKY 518, NPA 1342. That gives us a total of 78 out of 81 returned as of Monday night.
