John James loft wins 1st in Midwest 1 Loft 150 mile race

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Congratulations to John James, who had a bird – IF09LKY 9131H + BC -place FIRST in the Midwest One Loft 150-mile race on Sept. 20. There were 370 birds from all over the country in this race.

Originally, John’s bird was listed as finishing third and it arrived with another bird. The first place bird was since disqualified as it’s entry fee was not paid. The second and third placing birds, which dropped together, will share the first place money of $1500 according to John.

The Midwest One Loft website is here, and the link to the race results is here.

Decatur YB race, Sept. 27, 2009 (250 mi.)

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Bob and John decided to clock their first four birds instead of the usual two-bird limit as they were the only two lofts ‘competing’. John reports that they had very good returns from the race and he had the first four birds in.

John reports that he and Bob were the only lofts to ship birds for Sunday’s race.

There is a race this Sunday.  We ship Saturday and release Sunday from 250 (Decatur, Ala).  Driver must leave the club by 6:30 PM to be in Louisville on time.

Northeast wind again this week for another slow race. Winning Speed was only 913.694 Yards Per Minute which is only 32 mph. Also with the northeast winds the returns were quite poor as a whole.

David is apologizing for not having the printout scanned and posted yet ;) Hopefully soon!

Birds were released at 9:15 Sunday morning under clear skies and winds out if the NE at 4mph.

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

RESULTS from Saturday’s race:
1st John James
2nd Bob Zerkle
3rd Bacon and Casey
4th Kip Sulham
Congratulations to John who’s birds earned their first diplomas in what turned out to be a mighty tough race!
A more detailed report will be posted next week when we get it printed out.

Birds were released at 8:45 Sunday morning.

About 75 birds from 7 lofts were driven to Louisville for shipping to the Columbia (200 mi.) release scheduled for Sunday morning. Here are a few photos from the evening, including some from Kenny Fast’s home where the Highview Club meets to ship. We have decided that we will open clocks at 7 p.m. Monday.

I asked the club if they could recall how any of the young birds from Lexington were doing. Most of them couldn’t be specific about any birds based on memory with one exception: Number 9174. They tell me that this YB has two diplomas already this season. It is listed as John James’ bird. Another fellow said he had a blue bar cock that was doing well, but couldn’t recall the band number and I didn’t catch his name.

Let's hope Bob never forgets how to set one of these clocks.
